Hello Singapore Gooners,

TGIF and Happy Children’s Day! I kid you not.

International lullz is a break The Arsenal didn’t need just as you feel we had something good going there. Man, U saw that spanking last Sunday? Now can they repeat this for another 30 matches to win the EPL this season?

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 30th September 2015

extraDear Singapore Gooners,

I have a confession to make. I didn’t stay up to catch our Greek tragedy that unfolded upon us early this morning. I had an early morning flight to catch and upon learning the results before take-off, I decided to start writing my thoughts at 36,000 feet in the air. Turbulence ahead.

We started September with a bang and ended with a whimper.
Played 6, Won 3, Lost 3. Wake me up when September ends!

At least we ended Leicester’s unbeaten run. There can only be One Invincibles, The Arsenal! Good news is that Alexis-Walcott strikeforce is really kicking in now and goals are flowing. Defence needs some more bite eh? Happy (belated) Birthday Per. BFG turned 31 two days ago. Theo was just announced as our Player of the Month for September. Is he our new Anelka? He sulks less, thankfully.

As I announced last week, the annual Arsenal Singapore Futsal Tournament will take place on Sat 21 Nov at Kovan Sports Centre. Each team will register max 7 players with a Manager in-charge of the team. Registration fee for each team is only $40. Max 14 teams only are allowed to participate in the tournament.
Click on this link for the Player registration form and futsal rules and regulations:
Dateline to register is 7 Nov 2015. You can email Shai at if you need further clarifications.

Ticket application for Man City and Bournematch matches in December will close on 12  and 19 Oct respectively. Head to London during the school holidays for a festive visit to The Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. Email Umarani at

On this Super Sunday, Manure visits London. We are only 3 points away from the top.  Simple as that. Is there a bigger motivation needed?  How did they get to be top? I have no idea. They have a mean defence but our strikers will be pushing them all the way. Kick-off is on Sunday 4th Oct, 11pm at Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah and Dorsett outlets.

Renewal season ended last week but new sign-ups for Arsenal SG membership will continue till end Nov. You can do so from 9.30pm to 10.30pm this Sunday at Bras Basah outlet only. Then we will take a 2-week international break and resume on 18th Oct (Watford game).

I know the lads will be up for it this Sunday. Will you be there? COYG!!!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 23rd September 2015

Dear Singapore Gooners,

So what did we learn from that Russian roulette/roubles fiasco over the weekend? Simple. Cheaters NEVER prosper! A certain “D.C.” got what he deserved in the end. No thanks to that man in black “M.D.” Over 78,000 Gooners worldwide petitioned on the movement. Have you done it yet? It’s never too late even though Gabriel is back!

I was and still am fuming mad at this whole epsiode. But nothing could better sum it up than this quote by a certain Blues player. “We’re not surprised because we know Di*go. Everyone knows Di*go and the guy likes to cheat and put opponents out of the game”. When your own team-mate says such beautiful words, what else is there for us Gooners to say? *ownself whack ownself* Justice has been served! #IStandWithGabriel

So go ahead now and drink your Costa Coffee without any hesitation (I don’t drink coffee and am not boosting their sales) if you need your daily intake. Maureenho will be in for a ride this season thanks to his antics, trust me. Eva has already left the club!

How many of you Gooners fancy a game of futsal? The annual Arsenal Singapore Futsal Tournament will take place on Sat 21 Nov at Kovan Sports Centre. Each team can register max 7 players with a Manager in-charge of the team. Registration fee for each team is only $40. Max 14 teams only are allowed to participate in the tournament. Dateline to register is 7 Nov 2015. Start forming your teams now and I will send you the link for the registration forms in my next email. The forms will also include the tournament rules.

Ticket application for December’s Sunderland and Man City games are now open. Grab your chance to head to London and see The Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. Send your email to Umarani at

The Arsenal is facing 3 matches in the next 7 days. Already feels like crunch time, no? Tonight’s Capital One Cup game against Sp*ds will be shown live on ELEVEN, Singtel Channel 109 at 2.45am. Which team will Le Boss put out? Ospina/Cech, Mertesacker/Gabriel, youth/exerience? Stay up and catch the action!

The Arsenal will travel away to Leicester this weekend. The wily foxes led by the Silverfox himself (Claudio Ranieri) are one spot above us, boasting the best offense and are the only unbeaten team in the league. Can our lads be the first team to finally beat them this season? I suppose it won’t be easy but why not? Match kicks off on Saturday 26 Sep, 10pm at Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah and Dorsett outlets.

Next Wednesday 30th Sep at 2.45am, Champions League action resumes with a home match against Olympiacos. The boys will be up for this huge game to get our journey to Euro glory back on track. Can you stay up to cheer your team on? Yes, you can! Sleep can wait.

Take note that this is the last weekend to renew your membership this season. Gooners, you had 6 months to renew them and get your hands on the very exclusive Arsenal SG yellow away scarf.  Last chance to do it from 8pm to 9.30pm this Saturday only at Molly Bras Basah. New sign-ups will continue till end Nov.

I’ll see you there! Sing loud and proud. North London is Red!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 17th September 2015

Dear Singapore Gooners,

How many of you woke up to catch Arsenal’s quest for Champions League glory? I did and boy, that certainly didn’t go down well.

There were 6 changes to the squad from the one that beat the Orcs last Sat. Despite the highly-disputed sending off of Oli G, erratic refereeing and most of the lads not turning up in Zagreb, there’s still plenty of time and action for The Arsenal to turn this around! So get behind your team. We can do this!

Oh yes, have you checked out the latest decoration of the wall spaces with Arsenal memorabilia at Molly Bras Basah yet? The Arsenalisation is now 70% complete so go check it out. We aim to complete this sometime in October. Tell us what you think of it!

In other news, our annual Arsenal Singapore Futsal Tournament is right around the corner. Save this date in your calendar: Saturday 21st November. It’s also the start of the school holidays so we hope to see you there. More info on venue/event details will be revealed in the coming weeks. Look out for it! Go dust off your shoes now.

For all you fitness enthusiasts out there, PUMA is organising their annual PUMA Night Run on 17th October 2015, 7.30pm. Start/finish point is Marina Barrage. PUMA has very kindly offered 15 slots to our Arsenal SG members to participate in the run meaning you don’t have to pay any race fees!

To grab this chance, all you have to do is to email Eric at with your full name and membership number no later than 3pm this Sunday.

If you make the list of 15 members, you will be receiving an email back from Eric with details of the event.  Fastest fingers first!

The main action this weekend is not a top-of-the-table clash, mind you. It’s The Arsenal who has the 2nd best defensive record (but 4th in the league) against the team with the worst defensive record in the Premiership (17th in the league).

It’s very easy to say it is a mis-match! Maureenho will be up to his usual mind games and trying to ruffle the gaffer up. Will we see another fist-fight on the touchline between the managers? Or should there be more action on the pitch from Team Red v Team Blue? Our boys will want to prove our critics wrong and bounce right back from our mid-week blues.

Kick-off is on Sat 19th Sep, 7.45pm at Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah and Dorsett outlets. Get there early and have your dinner at the pub. Membership renewals & sign-ups this Saturday will be from 5.45pm-7.15pm and again after the match at 9.30pm-10pm at Bras Basah outlet only.  We have 1 more week to go for deadline of renewals.

One Team in London. London is Red. COYG!!!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 8th September 2015

Hello Singapore Gooners,

I’m writing to you earlier this week as this is going to be a long weekend for all Singaporeans and residents so plan your time well. You can do all you wish to do with your family and friends on Friday (Vote early and wisely in the GE!) and reserve the rest of your energy for Saturday’s match.

The international break is over, just like that. I don’t know about you but I am itching for The Arsenal to get back into action. The good news is that Ramsey, Ox, Walcott, Bosscielny, Debuchy, Cech, Ozil, Cazorla and Alexis performed well for their countries. Let’s hope with a spring in their step, they can channel all that positive energy on our home ground. 2 clean sheets in the past 2 games, 6th in the table and slowly climbing our way to the top. We need a Win on our home ground!

Francis Coquelin was voted our Player of the Month in August and deservedly so! What a transformation this guy has been for us and I dare say one of the first names on the team sheet now. Invariably, comparison with Vieira always comes to mind but Le Coq is a man in his own right. Let’s hope his positivity, passion and never-say-die attitude rubs off on the team. Have you seen how fired up this guy gets in every game? I love his attitude! Go see his videos on YouTube.

How many of you are keen to catch some Champions League action this Oct and Nov at Emirates Stadium? Ticket application for Bayern Munich and Dinamo Zagreb will close on 14th Sep and 20th Sep respectively. Apply by sending your email to

Last week I mentioned our on-going commitment with Children’s Aid Home. For those members who are able to volunteer once a month on Sundays, there are some kids who would treasure your time spent with them. Please drop a note to Shai at and he will fill you in with more details. The next session is on Sun 20 Sep, 3pm.

7 matches in 21 days. That’s right, folks! Matches are coming in thick and fast. EPL, Champions League and Carling Cup. I can’t get enough of it, I tell you! Stoke is up next to visit Emirates Stadium. They are winless this season and I’m confident our team will ensure that Mark Hughes’ team leaves north London the same way. This match is on Sat 12 Sep, 10pm kick-off and will be shown at both Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah and Dorsett outlets.

Look out for our Exco team at Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah outlet only for membership renewals and new sign-ups strictly from 8.30-9.30pm this Sat. A reminder for those renewing that we still stop renewals on 26th Sep so you have 2 more weeks to do so.

I’ll see you at Molly Bras Basah. Sing loud and proud.

Come on You Gunners!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 3rd September 2015

My fellow Singapore Gooners,

I write this to you with great humility and excitement to be the President of Arsenal Singapore after the recent AGM held on 29th August. I have served as Treasurer and Tickets Officer in this club previously. With this new role, I will do my best once again to serve the club as best as I possibly can. Those who know me are already aware that I have been a Gooner for 25 years now and I bleed red and white!
Cue song: I’m Arsenal till I Die, I’m Arsenal till I Die, I know I am, I’m sure I am, I’m Arsenal till I Die!

During Eric’s 2-year term as President, he has led the club with great purpose. Thanks, Eric! He will still continue to be in the Exco in another role handling media and sponsor. For those who did not attend the AGM, there were some changes in the roles in Exco. Umarani will now be handling match tickets. Connie is now our new Club Treasurer and we have a new member in our Exco. Tony joins us as our Vice-Treasurer. The other Exco members whom you know will continue in their existing roles. I introduced your new Exco if you were at Molly during the Newcastle game last week. We will continue all our efforts to ensure that your experience with Arsenal Singapore Club will always be memorable, be it whether you watch a match at Molly Roffey’s or by participating in our local activities.

Speaking of activities, Arsenal Singapore will continue with our regular ones such as Futsal Tournament, Year-End Party, BAGBAR and many more to come. One such activity is our commitment to the Children’s Aid Home or Melrose Home. We have a few members who volunteer their time once a month, typically on a Sunday, for 90 mins for a light cardio workout and footy kickabouts. They spend time with kids, aged 8-12 years old, who need a supportive environment to grow up to be responsible adults and upright citizens. We would like to grow our pool of volunteers (male and female) so that we can rotate them as not all volunteers are required on a monthly basis. We intend to work with these kids for the long-term so your contribution will be much appreciated! Those who are keen to volunteer, please drop a note to Shai at and he will fill you in with more details. The next session is on 20 Sep, 3pm.

Match Tickets
Our membership has grown steadily from around 400+ two years ago to over 650 now. With more members means more people applying for match tickets to catch The Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.I have personally made the trip to London at least 4 times and I must say it gets better each time and it is truly a memorable and emotional experience. Tears were shed too. Nothing more beautiful in (north) London, I dare say! Ticket application for our Champions League fixtures against Bayern Munich (Oct) and Dinamo Zagreb (Nov) are now open. Send your ticket applications to Umarani at

The Future
Finally we are always on the lookout for new additions for our future Exco team. If you would like to be part of this fun, crazy gang whose love for The Arsenal is undying, drop me a note. The future of Arsenal Singapore is in your hands and I would love to see this club continue to flourish in the years to come. Also, if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve your experience at the pub or through our club activities, send me an email too.

Membership Renewals
There are no EPL matches this weekend as there is an international break. For those itching to catch your Arsenal team in action, we will be back on Sat 12 Sep. Membership sign-ups and renewals will resume then at our Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah outlet only. Take note that renewals will end on Sep 26th (Leicester game) so you only have 3 more weeks to do it.

You must have already read that the transfer window is now closed and this Arsenal team will be playing their hearts out to achieve their fullest potential. Who wouldn’t have loved to see one or two additional squad additions (I was secretly gunning for Zlatan!)? Let’s get behind this team now and cheer them on. Sing loud and proud as you always do!

I’ll talk to you again soon and if you see me at the pub, come over and say hi.

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 28th August 2015

Dear Singapore Gooner,

This will be my last newsletter to you as President of Arsenal Singapore. The two years have simply flown by and I just want to say that it’s been an absolute privilege.

Our club is now into its ninth year and we’ve certainly come a long way since our launch back in March 2007. We’ve never had the objective at the start to become the biggest supporters club in Singapore but I’m certain that we’ve become the best.

What I know is that we definitely have the best set of supporters you can find anywhere in the world. Many of us Gooners are often asked about why or how we started supporting the club and words like ‘class’, ‘history’ and ‘doing things the right way’  often come in. In many ways, that applies to all of us too in the way we support the best team in the world.

We are all connected by our love for this wonderful team. We all want the same thing, which is for the team to be successful on the pitch. That is something beyond our control but what we can control is how we treat each other and how we conduct ourselves, whether through the anonymity of the internet or in real life.

There is too much negativity and cynicism in the real world as it is. Football, to many of us, is more than just a game. Supporting a football club is a life-long relationship and will always be emotional. That is special but if we can all take away the negative side of it and focus on being positive, especially towards and among fellow Gooners, surely the world can be a nicer and better place.

As Rocky said, remember who you are, what you are and who you represent.

Our 2015 AGM will be taking place on Saturday 29 August from 5pm at Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah. The pub will be closed from 5 to 7pm to the non-Arsenal Singapore public so if you will like to join us for the AGM where we will report on our activities from the past year, remember to show your membership cards at the door for entry. Doors will open again from 7pm ahead of our Newcastle match at 7.45pm.

I’ve probably not said this enough but I would like to thank the members of our Exco for all their unstinting commitment and sacrifices over the last two years. I’ve been privileged to have them on the team and they have kept running beyond 90 minutes and extra-time. (Don’t worry, we are not going into penalties.)

On Saturday, we will have a new President of this great club. I’m sure you will give him the same support as you’ve shown me throughout this time.

Once again, thank you for everything. I don’t know about you but I got this feeling that we are going to have a fantastic season ahead.

Victoria Concordia Crescit and COYG!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 16th August 2015

Dear Singapore Gooner,

A week is certainly a long time, especially in football after coming off a negative result and performance.

You always hope the next game come along faster, for the chance of redemption, to get that result out of the system with the hope that the last one was just one of those days.

We live in a world now of instant reactions and opinions. No doubt in the past week you’ve seen fans, pundits and media alike analyse our performance to death.

Pre-season had made us title favourites and suddenly after one match, we now have no chance.

Let’s have a little perspective here. We are not favourites for the title but certainly we are in with a shout. Winning or losing last week should not change anything.

Of course, much will depend on how we respond and we know this team and squad are more than capable of bouncing back.

It all starts this evening Sunday 16 August with another London derby against Crystal Palace.

It’s another early kickoff at 8.30pm so do join us at either of our two homes of Arsenal Singapore at Bras Basah or Dorsett.

Membership sign-ups and renewals will be at the usual spot at Bras Basah from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Do note that we will be accepting membership renewals all the way till the end of September.  Take aside the Monday night matches and international breaks, you will only have about another three more weekends to renew for this season. Your 2014-15 membership will lapse in October with all sign-ups considered as new ones from then.

Here’s hoping for a brand new start to the season for us.

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 9th August 2015

Happy National Day!

Today’s a very special and proud day for all of us Singapore Gooners as our country celebrates our Golden Jubilee.

We’ve certainly come a long way as a nation since 1965 and there is plenty that we have to be grateful for. Whether we were born and grew up here or are from overseas now living and working here, this is really home, truly.

In many ways, the Arsenal have also come a long way in those 50 years and how appropriate that we will be embarking on our latest league campaign this evening on 9 August, playing at home in red and white.

It promises to be a massive season for us and we are definitely a serious contender. As Le Boss said, we have prepared well and now “it’s about points, about performance, about efficiency, about togetherness and about heart.”

The rollercoaster ride starts at 8.30pm against West Ham but do join us early at the homes of Arsenal Singapore at Bras Basah and Dorsett as we will be screening the National Day Parade on the big screens.

We will not be taking any membership sign-ups or renewals this evening as we will all like to catch the NDP too!
Wear your Singapore colours with pride today and sing up loud and proud!

Majulah Singapura and COYG!
