Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 24 May 2015

Hello Fellow Gooners,

Barring a catastrophic loss to WBA or a loss and Steve Bruce deciding he is still a manc and throwing the Hull Tigers under a bus at KC Stadium this Sunday, Arsenal will finish 3rd and avoid playing the CL qualifying games in August.  In other words …. we just need a draw this Sunday!

We’ve reached the final game of the season and what a roller coaster it has been, so many injuries in the 1st half to key players left us looking like we would be skipping the Champions League next season but a great run of wins in the 2nd half made sure we qualified again for the umpteenth consecutive time.

Both Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah and Dorsett will screen AFCvWBA at 10pm on Sun 24 May.  Signups and renewals will only be at Bras Basah from 730 to 930pm.  Come down and renew if you haven’t done so yet so that you can get your new Arsenal Singapore premium, a yellow scarf that you can wear for next week’s FA Cup Final!!  #SheWoreAYellowRibbon (in case you hadn’t read about it yet, Arsenal will be wearing yellow for the final this year.)

Speaking of which, our FA Cup Final will also be screened at Bras Basah and Dorsett at 1230am on Sun 31 May (Sat night).  Those electing to watch at Dorsett, please lower your volume with your cheering and singing to avoid complaints from the hotel guests upstairs, and this venue will be open to both members and non-members.  For those going to Bras Basah, signups and renewals will be from 830 to 1030pm on Sat 30 March.  For the 1st 50 members at Bras Basah on Sat night at 830pm, we will be giving out a $10 Molly Roffey’s voucher for use that evening!  So do come down early and grab a seat!  Bras Basah will be open only to Arsenal Singapore members from 830 to 11pm and open to the public, space permitting, after 11pm so get in there!!  There will be new flags and pennants sent to us by Arsenal to add to the atmosphere!  So sing your hearts out!

Ticket sales for members going to the Barclays Asia Trophy are closed and we’ll have over 300 in our section for 15 July and over 500 for 18 July.  We will let you know when to come and get your tickets as soon as we get them from the organizers.  Until then, do google for and watch videos of Arsenal chants and learn them, you will be sitting in the singing section so you’re expected to be loud and proud!!

That’s it for this season!  See you in July! (I’m off to eat some leftover durian ;-))

Ooo To Be A .. Gooner!!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 12 May 2015

Hello Fellow Singapore Gooners,

Well that was a disappointing result last night against Swansea City.  I guess it was inevitable that our 11 game unbeaten run in all competitions, since 1 March, would come to an end sometime and of course Fabianski would have to have a great game against us.  We just have to win the next 4 games against Man U, Sunderland, West Brom and of course Aston Villa!!

Due to the scousers draw against chelski, Arsenal are now guaranteed to be in the CL next season, for the 16th consecutive year.  If you think that’s no big deal, just ask the scousers and the scum, they spend more than we do and still cannot regularly get into the CL, only the 3 clubs significantly richer than us have been able to do so and even then, manure failed last season.

Also happy to report that we celebrated St Totteringham’s Day again this season, for the 20th year in a row.  #NorthLondonIsRed #ItsHappenedAgain #MindTheGap #ForeverInOurShadow

The Barclays Asia Trophy details have now been officially announced and many of you have already bought your tickets to that event in our exclusive members only sales period.  If you have not yet done so, the FINAL day for buying tickets through us and sitting with us in the exclusive Arsenal Singapore Cat 3 section is this Sunday 17 May from 730pm to 1030pm, before our 11pm kickoff against Man U at Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah (MRBB).  Again, each member will be allowed to buy 2 tickets.  We will however be allowing new membership signups at the same time so get your friends and family members to sign up as well if you need more tickets.

It will be super packed at MRBB so do come down very early if you want a seat and Molly Roffey’s Dorsett will also be screening ManU v Arsenal at 11pm.  Please note for either location if you are coming down with your friend who supports ManU, please tell them that these are NOT neutral venues, they cannot wear ManU kits and they should behave accordingly.  Of course they can clap and cheer but no taunting and booing of Arsenal.  Molly Roffey’s management reserves the right to ask them to leave.

As a buildup to the BAT event. Ian Wright is in Singapore and will be taking part in a Twitter Takeover tomorrow 13 May from 330pm to 5pm hosted by The New Paper.  To take part,

1.       Tweet your questions that you’ve always wanted to ask Ian to @TheNewPaper,

2.       Include the hashtag #TNPBAT2015,

3.       Follow @TheNewPaper and look out for his responses!

That’s it for this week,

Come On Arsenal!!

Hello Fellow Gooners,

Eric’s going to be busy the next month due to work so I’ll be taking over.

Looks like the Arsenal supporters at the Emirates hit a raw nerve when we sang “Boring, boring Chelsea!”  From their detestable manager to their racist captain, they wouldn’t stop commenting on it.  Must be deep down they know they are boring and that after spending so much $$$$$ on their team, their owner is probably just as unhappy with their brand of soul sucking, sleep inducing, bus parking football.  What I thought was frankly ludicrous was their reaction at the final whistle, they were celebrating like they won the league.  What utter muppets!

Read this on the internet, which those blue scum should take note:

Dear Chelsea fans,

Congrats on winning your 5th league title (most likely) but FOR YOUR INFORMATION

Aston villa won their 5th league trophy in 1900 (115 yrs ago)
Sunderland did it in 1913 (102 yrs ago)
Arsenal did it in 1938 (77 yrs ago)
Everton did it in 1939 (76 yrs ago)
Liverpool did it in 1947 (68 yrs ago)
Man U did it in 1957 (58 yrs ago)

Winning 5 league trophies isn’t any achievement that hasn’t been seen before so please stop worrying our ears with the noise of being league champs.

Boring and no class to top it off.

Our next game is away to Hull City and that kicks off at 3am on Tues 5 May.  Due to the timing, thanks to Sky Sports, Molly Roffey’s will not be open for this.  The same for the following week when we play Swansea at 3am on Tues 12 May.

Hey Goonerettes, we NEED your help!!  The next round of our community service event is slated on Sun 10 May 2015 from 3-5 pm at the Children’s Aid Society.  This time, the activities will involve the girls from the home and we are looking for female members to volunteer in addition to our male members who help out with the boys.  Those interested, please sms or whatsapp Shai directly at 98440234.

That’s it for this week!

Come On Arsenal!!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 13 March 2015

What a week it has been to be a Gooner, especially if you are in Singapore!

Knocking Manchester United out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford with our boy Welbz scoring and celebrating the winner will stick with all of us for a very long time. That Tuesday morning, we had almost 70 of us cheering and singing at Molly Roffey’s (which included a few very silent and I must say respectful Mancs).

On Wednesday, it was finally officially announced that the Arsenal will be coming to our very shores in July to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy alongside football teams Everton and Singapore Selection as well as Stoke City.

It’s been 24 long years since the greatest team the world has ever seen have been to Singapore so mark your diaries and make sure you are in town for the week of 13 July!

Ticketing details will only be released from May but as a club, Arsenal Singapore are already in touch with the promoters to make arrangements to bulk purchase tickets and have all of us Gooners allocated one section in the stadium. So hang on for now and wait for us to share with you more news when we get them.

I know everyone is excited but there is very little we can answer when we get bombarded with questions about how to buy tickets when we clearly indicated on our posts that we will only have those details much later.

Back to the present, we still have plenty to look forward to before the likes of the BFG, HFB and Le Coq touch down at Changi.

BAGBAR registrations are down to the last two weekends so if you have yet to sign up, what are you waiting for? Come down to Molly’s at Bras Basah this Saturday 14 March from after 9pm and sign da thing!

We play West Ham at 11pm and you have the option of both Bras Basah and Dorsett to go to catch the match.

A big shout out to the 15 Singapore Gooners who have made the trip to the Emirates for this match! Sing up loud and proud and make sure you come back with them 3 points!

Come Wednesday morning (18 March), we play our 2nd leg against Monaco in the Champions League. We are up against it but it is very much still mission possible.

The great news is that Molly Roffey’s (Bras Basah) will stay open for the 3.45am kickoff so do come on down to hopefully witness one of our greatest comebacks in our history. You just never know!

Ok, I think I’ve rambled on for quite a bit but it’s really been a very special week for a Singapore Gooner!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 7 March 2015

Hello everyone!

I’ve got quite a few things to inform you so I’ll get straight to it.

First up, the great news is that Molly Roffey’s (Bras Basah) will be open for our FA Cup Quarterfinal against Man United!

That’s right, make sure you join us for what could be another classic cup tie in the early hours of Tuesday 10 March our time, with the kick off at 3.45am. Almost 9,000 Gooners will be rocking up to Manchester for the game despite the travel challenges so what is a trip to Bras Basah for all of us?

Given that it’s an early kickoff, we will not be taking any sign-ups for BAGBAR this weekend. But fret not, you still have time to sign up as they will resume the next two Saturdays prior to our matches against West Ham and Newcastle.

As most of you would have known by now, Arsenal Singapore has adopted Children’s Aid Society as our beneficiary for the season. At our year end party in December, we auctioned off several Arsenal memorabilia and thanks to the generosity of our Singapore Gooners, we raised $5,000 for them which was matched dollar for dollar by matching grants from the ministry.

When we went down to present our donations, we also initiated conversations with them on what else we can do to as a club to help them. We did not want the partnership to be just about a one-off donation.

Children’s Aid Society runs Melrose Home which is mainly made up of children below the age of 12. They have since asked us whether we could help conduct football sessions about twice a month for their group of boys aged between 8 and 12.

Arsenal Singapore will need at least three volunteers per session and this is where you come in. We’ll start off with monthly sessions, with the first one tentative set for Sunday 22 March from 3 to 5pm. We will then explore expanding them to twice a month.

If you have flair with working with kids and want to contribute, please drop Shai an email at  And if you have kids of that age range, you are more than welcome to have them join in those sessions too.

We hope to hear from you soon!

In the meantime, let’s get behind the boys to make sure we have another trip to Wembley come April!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

On behalf of the Exco of Arsenal Singapore, I would like to wish you and your family Happy New Year and a very prosperous, successful and blessed Year of the Goat ahead. And of course, for the Arsenal to be every bit as successful as we want them to be!

As you enjoy the long weekend or continue on your visitations and feastings, the Arsenal is back in league action tonight against Crystal Palace. Kicking off at 11pm, you have a choice of heading down to either of the Molly Roffey’s at Bras Basah or Dorsett to join your fellow Gooners for some CNY football.

We will also be starting sign-ups for Be A Gunner, Be A Runner tonight from 9pm to 10.30pm (only at Bras Basah). BAGBAR will be taking place on Sat 11 April and just like every year, Arsenal Singapore will be donating 100% of all fees collected to the Arsenal Foundation. For those of you who have been collecting angbaos over the last couple of days, that should easily take care of your BAGBAR registration!

Sign-ups will continue for the next few weeks till 21 March so do not forget to round up your fellow Gooner friends and family to join in!

We’ll see you at Molly’s and don’t forget we are back in Champions League action midweek and Molly’s at Bras Basah will be specially open for our Monaco game!

COYG and Huat Ah!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 27 February 2015

Greetings my fellow Gooners,

I hope you are feeling better by the time you receive this newsletter. I guess the less said about our Monaco game the better. It was just a horrible feeling of déjà vu and the sensation that we are somehow stuck in this Champions League round of 16 Groundhog Day. I was informed quite quickly that the chance of us progressing through to the next round is 1.5% based on statistics and history. My response to that was at least we still have a chance. It’s slim and looking improbable right now, but still a chance.

As supporters, we experience the highs and the lows with the team and the only thing all of us can do is look forward to the next match.

Thankfully, the next one is this Sunday night in the league when we welcome Everton to the Emirates. We have decent form in the league and there’s no time for anyone to feel sorry as the competition for a top 4 spot is really heating up.

Both Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah and Dorsett are open for our 10pm kickoff.

Sign-ups for Arsenal Singapore’s very own Be A Gunner, Be A Runner on 11 April will continue this Sunday from 8pm to 9.30pm at Bras Basah so do head on down to secure your spot for our maiden run at our very own National Stadium.

For the first time, we will also be having a lucky draw for all runners on the day with some fantastic Arsenal merchandise from Puma up for grabs. So wait no further and round up your Gooner friends and families to run for a good cause, with 100% of all fees collected going to the Arsenal Foundation.

Lastly, we need to have an indication of interest from our members in coming to catch our FA Cup match against Man United early Tuesday 10 March morning before we make the request for Molly Roffey’s to stay open for it.

Ultimately it has to make sense for them in terms of numbers so do drop me a note separately by this weekend only if you are likely to come. We will then make a decision by the middle of next week.

Stay positive and COYG!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 15 January 2015

Hello Fellow Gooners,

Eric’s busy/away so I’m baaaccckkkkkkkkkk!  Run for your lives MUAHAHAHA!

So Wengalf’s army defeated the orcs last Sunday night but at a cost, Matty Debuggins was sorely injured by Marko the orc which was not detected by Jon Moss The Incompetent.  It was a thrilling victory nevertheless, with Sancholas scoring 2 and Laurin Koshield popping one in, which left Croucho Longarms flailing about as he usually does.

We’re now 4 points from overtaking 3rd place Southampton and another victory this weekend against Citeh would be just what we need!  The match kicks off at midnight on Sun 18 Jan (early Mon morning) and great news!! Both Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah AND Dorsett will open for this match.  So do come down to either location and cheer on The Gunners.  Remember, the same discounts for members are available at Dorsett and as it is less crowded there, you should be able to get a seat (they have 3 TV screens and also a pool table as well as a darts machine to keep you entertained before kickoff!)  Call them to reserve a table at 6444 5313 (ONLY for Dorsett, no reservations at Bras Basah please).

Last night the exco held our monthly meeting and have confirmed some events for the rest of this season which we will be sharing with you in due course.  But the most important bit of info we can share now is for you to clear your calendars for this season’s Be A Gunner, Be A Runner (BAGBAR) event which will be on Sat 11 April.  We are trying to hold it at a very special venue and most likely in the afternoon so that those of you working on Sat mornings can also attend.  Remember Gooners, this event is for the Arsenal Foundation charity and EVERY cent of your signup fee is donated to them with a top up from Arsenal Singapore Club so please be generous and take part!!  We have usually had around 40 taking part in each of the past 2 seasons, but for this season let’s get at least 60 to 80 runners!!

That’s it for this week!  COME ON ARSENAL!!!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 1 January 2015

Happy New Year!

Wherever you may be, I hope this email finds you well and all ready to embrace 2015!

2014 was a good year for the Arsenal and Arsenal Singapore and we rounded off the year on Sunday in fine style with one of our most memorable year-end parties. Thank you to all who joined us for the party and for making it really awesome. More importantly, a big shout-out goes to the generosity of our Singapore Gooners who together with the club helped raised S$5,000 in our charity auction that evening for Arsenal Singapore’s adopted beneficiary for the season, Children’s Aid Society.

I have further good news to share. On Tuesday 30 December, Jin Yan and I paid a visit to Melrose Home which Children’s Aid Society runs to present our club’s donation. We were then informed that the funds came in at just the right time as all donations that go into the society before the New Year qualifies them for a matching grant from the ministry. What this means is that Children’s Aid Society will be benefitting to the tune of S$10,000 with our donation!

Playing our role in the community has always been and will always be something close to the hearts of Arsenal Singapore. We may be a club made up of a diverse bunch of people coming together for the love of a fantastic football club in London but we always remember that we must still do our part for the people who are in need here in this country we all call home. As we always say, Be a Gooner, Be a Giver.

Back to the football, we are hopefully building some sort of momentum with our recent results and will certainly hope to kick on when we take on high-flying Southampton on New Year’s Day. Join us at either Molly Roffey’s Bras Basah or Dorsett for the 11pm kickoff.

On Sunday 4 January, we will be starting our defence of the FA Cup against none other than Hull City with the late kickoff at 1.30am (Monday morning our time). Only Bras Basah will be open for this.

It does not seem too long ago we were all packed to the rafters in Molly Roffey’s going through the whole rollercoaster of emotions in that FA Cup Final against Hull before finally lifting that famous trophy! What a night it was and we all can say now that it happened last year!

Have yourself a Goonerific 2015!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 25 December 2014

Season’s Greetings my fellow Gooners!
As you go about enjoying your feasts and opening presents, I have some news to share with you.
On behalf of the club, I’m pleased to announce that we have nominated Children’s Aid Society to be the official beneficiary of Arsenal Singapore this season.
The society manages Melrose Home which provides a supportive environment for children between the ages of 4 to 18 years old who require care and protection in a residential setting. It is essentially a “home away from home” for children and teenagers whose parents or family members are unable to provide care or supervision for them.  You can read more about them at
This Sunday at our year-end party, we’ll be raising funds for the society through an auction of some of our signed memorabilia. We’ll be paying them a visit in the New Year and will explore other opportunities for our club to do something with them so watch this space.
Speaking of this Sunday 28 Dec, registration for our year-end party is full and Molly Roffey’s at Bras Basah will be closed to the public and everyone else from 6pm to 10pm. If you did not sign up, do consider heading over to Molly Roffey’s at Dorsett Residences if you are planning to grab dinner and catch the earlier match and our match against West Ham at 11pm. Doors will open again at Bras Basah after 10pm in time for kick off.
Before this Sunday, we have Boxing Day and that means Arsenal are in action again! We are at home to QPR at 1.30am (Sat morning over here) and Molly’s at Bras Basah will stay open for you to join us for some Christmas toasts and hopefully a much-needed win!
Have yourself a wonderful Christmas!
