From Charlie & Wei Fang, the Newly-Weds:

Charlie’s second wish came true – watching a match live at the Emirates Stadium (his first wish was to marry me :D)!!!

Charlie and I just got married in June and we were planning for our honeymoon trip to Europe. He has been supporting Arsenal since his secondary school days and it would be awesome if we could catch The Arsenal live in action at the Emirates Stadium. We searched for various channels to secure the tickets from foreign sites but none was guaranteed. Charlie was so desperate to catch Gunners in action that he actually purchased a pair of pre-season friendly tickets (Arsenal versus Man City) without reading the details. The match was in Sweden while our travel route was London, Paris and Switzerland! Thankfully, we managed to get our refund. We chanced upon the Arsenal Singapore website and realised we have been missing out on so much action in Singapore! We quickly joined as members and balloted for the BIG match; Arsenal versus Liverpool. As we were considered super new members, we were not hopeful in getting the tickets. To our pleasant surprise, we managed to get a pair of tickets and together with other members from Arsenal Singapore, we were even invited for the pre-match greeting session.

On the early morning of 14 Aug 2016, we left Paris for London excitedly in our Arsenal jerseys. Jin (the Vice-President of Arsenal Singapore) asked us to join him for lunch at Piebury Corner at Highbury if we were available. We went and the next surprise came. The legendary Lee Dixon was there for lunch too and we even took some photos with him!!! *FAN-MODE! SCREAM!*

Then we continued screaming at the pre-match greeting session where we got to meet and cheer for Arsene Wenger, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and the other Arsenal players up close. We also took a picture with Gunnersaurus! After the session, we went to the Armoury to get the 2016/2017 Arsenal jerseys and made our way into the stadium.

Surprise No. 3 was a free match day programme which usually cost £3.50. Jin shared with us how lucky a couple we are – (i) to get tickets for a such a big match even though we just joined Arsenal Singapore less than 3 months, (ii) to meet Lee Dixon at Piebury (his first time meeting Lee Dixon too) and (iii) to have free match day programme. No wonder people always say newly-weds are super lucky and huat :D!

 

The match began and our eyes were glued to the field. It was an incredible feeling watching a live match and it was like a roller coaster ride, experiencing high moments like Arsenal scored the first goal and Arsenal catching up 3 – 4 at the 75th minute and low moments when it was 1 – 4 at the 60th minute. Although Arsenal did not manage to bring home the 3 points, we were not disappointed as we saw Arsenal’s fighting and never-give-up spirit even though the score was 1 – 4. We are certain Arsenal will come back stronger and we will support Arsenal with all our might back home in Singapore!

After the match, we took an overnight coach back to Paris. It has been a long day travelling between 2 cities but catching Gunner live in action was truly worth it. Thank you, Arsenal Singapore for the great experience and memory for our honeymoon. We are truly and forever grateful! 🙂
