Hei Gooners,

How’s your week been? Mine has been max-out with work and I really look forward to the coming weekend.

Talking about the weekend, the previous one was a big, big surprise. There was so much hype to welcome the new EPL season, especially when Arsenal played the opening match. Alas, the game ended with disappointment for me and I am sure for the others as well. Losing the first game is not a good start!  

Let’s talk about the negatives: Auba and Laca were sick and did not feature. Tierney and Martinelli cannot combine well, we are bad with defending against set pieces (nothing new and we never learn), play with style but didn’t material, not used to play with the crowd (especially the ones boosted from a promotion), Arteta used a different gel for his hair (a bit unkept), the memes are not so funny.

And the positives: Balogun made his first start, the stadium was noisy with fans with great atmosphere, you can hear the travelling Gooners singing loud and proud (gave me the chills), Saka was much respected, Saka made a lot of differences to the attack, Saka intermixed very well with Tierney, Arteta didn’t grow old, some of the memes are hilarious.

Then again, losing the first game is not that bad, considering that the defending champions themselves lost too. It’s a marathon of football matches and there is more to play. I hope that we can bounce from this setback. The next few games will be tough for Arsenal.  

Arsenal hosts Chelsea at the Emirates this Sunday, 22 August 2021 at 11.30 pm. Keep the faith!
