Featured Members’ trip to Arsenal

From Charlie & Wei Fang, the Newly-Weds:

14 Aug 2016:
Charlie’s second wish came true – watching a match live at the Emirates Stadium (his first wish was to marry me :D)!!!

Charlie and I just got married in June and we were planning for our honeymoon trip to Europe. He has been supporting Arsenal since his secondary school days and it would be awesome if we could catch The Arsenal live in action at the Emirates Stadium. We searched for various channels to secure the tickets from foreign sites but none was guaranteed. Charlie was so desperate to catch Gunners in action that he actually purchased a pair of pre-season friendly tickets (Arsenal versus Man City) without reading the details. The match was in Sweden while our travel route was London, Paris and Switzerland! Thankfully, we managed to get our refund. We chanced upon the Arsenal Singapore website and realised we have been missing out on so much action in Singapore! We quickly joined as members and balloted for the BIG match; Arsenal versus Liverpool. As we were considered super new members, we were not hopeful in getting the tickets. To our pleasant surprise, we managed to get a pair of tickets and together with other members from Arsenal Singapore, we were even invited for the pre-match greeting session.

On the early morning of 14 Aug 2016, we left Paris for London excitedly in our Arsenal jerseys. Jin (the Vice-President of Arsenal Singapore) asked us to join him for lunch at Piebury Corner at Highbury if we were available. We went and the next surprise came. The legendary Lee Dixon was there for lunch too and we even took some photos with him!!! *FAN-MODE! SCREAM!*

newly01

Then we continued screaming at the pre-match greeting session where we got to meet and cheer for Arsene Wenger, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and the other Arsenal players up close. We also took a picture with Gunnersaurus! After the session, we went to the Armoury to get the 2016/2017 Arsenal jerseys and made our way into the stadium.

newly02

Surprise No. 3 was a free match day programme which usually cost £3.50. Jin shared with us how lucky a couple we are – (i) to get tickets for a such a big match even though we just joined Arsenal Singapore less than 3 months, (ii) to meet Lee Dixon at Piebury (his first time meeting Lee Dixon too) and (iii) to have free match day programme. No wonder people always say newly-weds are super lucky and huat :D!

newly03

The match began and our eyes were glued to the field. It was an incredible feeling watching a live match and it was like a roller coaster ride, experiencing high moments like Arsenal scored the first goal and Arsenal catching up 3 – 4 at the 75th minute and low moments when it was 1 – 4 at the 60th minute. Although Arsenal did not manage to bring home the 3 points, we were not disappointed as we saw Arsenal’s fighting and never-give-up spirit even though the score was 1 – 4. We are certain Arsenal will come back stronger and we will support Arsenal with all our might back home in Singapore!

newly04

After the match, we took an overnight coach back to Paris. It has been a long day travelling between 2 cities but catching Gunner live in action was truly worth it. Thank you, Arsenal Singapore for the great experience and memory for our honeymoon. We are truly and forever grateful!🙂

Good morning Gooners,

WOW, it has been a goal fest lately, hasn’t it? I can’t recall the last time The Arsenal scored 4 goals for 2 consecutive matches. Did you catch the “Deforestation” by The Arsenal this morning? (Credit to our Gooner Leon for the awesome quote) .Catch the highlights here: http://arsenalist.com/f/2016-17/nottingham-forest-vs-arsenal/nottingham-forest-vs-arsenal-highlights.html

Goals from Xhaka-boom, Perez double and Ox sealed the win and we are into the fourth round of EFL Cup. The goals are flowing and the team is getting to play well so we are in shape for Chelski this weekend and Basel next Thursday.

Here are your Arsenal Singapore updates for this week.

1. ArsenalSG10 Lucky Draw

In September, we will continue this Lucky Draw promo so members should hold on to your September dining receipts from Molly and submit to any Exco member on any Arsenal match nights. Last date for submission of receipts is 25 Sep (Chelsea game). Refer to the Terms & Conditions on our FB page: https://www.facebook.com/ArsenalSingapore/posts/1120061031364951

– On the back of each receipt, write down your personal details in this format: Name, Membership number, Mobile number, Arsenal’s opponent.

(For example: John Tan, 702-07-xxx-x, 91234567, Arsenal v Chelsea).

– The draw will take place during the Burnley game on 2nd Oct.

– All winners will be notified by us to collect your prize.

3. Arsenal Match Tickets

More match tickets are now open for bookings. Send your applications to Umarani at tickets@arsenalsingapore.com

Stoke City,

Ticket Deadline: Sep 28th, 2016

West Bromwich Albion,
Match Date: Dec 26th, 2016
Ticket Deadline: Oct 15th, 2016

Another big test awaits for us this Sunday. Chelski comes over to our ground and with their big spending and new manager, the pressure should be on them to perform. Good to see us creating chances and scoring from them for past 3 games. Le Boss will have a tough time choosing his first XI: Xhaka, Perez, Elneny, Giroud? Will they finally start or will he try his tried-and-tested Cazorla-Coq-Ox-Walcott-Alexis combi? Your guess is as good as mine. It will be an explosive match for sure.

Come down early to renew/sign-up your membership and collect your all-new red & white polo t-shirt (see the pic attached). LAST DAY FOR RENEWALS is this Saturday, 24 Sep. Remind your friends and family to sign up before the deadline. Look out for the Exco team from 11pm to Midnight on Saturday outside Molly.

The Arsenal v Chelski, 12.30AM kick-off, Sunday 25th Sep Sep.

London is Red. We are The Arsenal.

Good morning Singapore Gooners,

The Arsenal kicked off our Champions League campaign with a nerve-wracking 1-1 draw with PSG. It truly was a game of 2 halves and I suppose we were lucky to come away with a draw as the night went on. Let’s hope the lads (and manager) learnt their lessons… LOL

Last Saturday’s heart-stopping injury-time goal from Santi proved again that we never give up. Birthday boy Kos the Boss was the perfect role model in captaining the side and what a beauty of a goal! You can watch that goal again and again. And again! You do feel the our team hasn’t quite find its feet yet but that only means we can get better and results will come.

Good evening Singapore Gooners,

The theme this week is all about sharing. Sharing the love for The Arsenal amongst yourselves. We had our first win of the season against Watford recently with a convincing performance. Most of our lads will be back this weekend, including our newest signings Mustafi and Perez. You can bet Molly will be singing their new songs for sure. Have you heard the all-new Singapore version of the Mustafi song? Ahem.

Second sharing, have you seen this eye-catching video of Mustafi and Mertesacker dancing? You have been warned:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JihqELmrBuE

Third sharing, the Arsenal Legends rolled back the years and rolling good times when they beat Milan Glorie 4-2 over the weekend. Wasn’t it a magical 90 mins of footy action watching your past heroes in action? One of the key highlights (which didn’t result in a goal) was this “Wengerball” magic moment: http://www.101greatgoals.com/101ggvideos/skills/arsenal-legends-playing-wengerball-ac-milan-video/
Maybe we should have the Arsenal Legends v Arsenal current XI. Not a bad idea eh?
1. Arsenal 5K Run

Fourth sharing, we raised a total of S$3,150 from members by end Aug 2016. The club did a top-up and we donated a total of £3,000 (or approx S$5,600) to The Arsenal Foundation. And we were informed yesterday that Arsenal SG raised the highest amount of funds amongst all supporters club this year. For our efforts, the club will receive a signed Arsenal jersey. Kudos to all runners, donors and buyers of the special commemorative cap!

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 17th August 2016

extra

Good evening Singapore Gooners,

Sorry folks, my bad. Last Sunday’s match apparently was the FINAL pre-season friendly for The Arsenal. Our season starts this weekend *cough cough cough*.

Over 120 Gooners packed Molly last Sunday and we all left with heads shaking in disappointment. Probably disbelief too. SIGH!

Online coments, criticisms, suggestions all point to one simple conclusion: WE NEED TO BUY. SOMEBODY.

On a much more positive note, Arsenal Singapore will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary in 2017. Yes, the club was officially launched on 31 March 2007. We will slowly reveal the Exco’s plans to commemorate this upcoming season with some fun-filled, exciting and rewarding year of activities especially for you Gooners! These exclusive privileges and benefits are for MEMBERS ONLY! For now, here we go.

1. Arsenal Singapore Football Team

Please wear proper football gears and bring any red top and any blue top (neutral kit and not representing any team) during the trial. If you have any queries, please email your football kaki Shai at Shai@arsenalsingapore.com

2. Lucky Draw Contest

To reward our members for your loyalty and passion for our club, we will start a lucky draw contest in August 2016. 2 winners will be picked and they stand to win Molly Roffey’s dining vouchers. 1st winner will win $100 and the 2nd winner will win $50 in vouchers. So how do you win? Read on.

Featured Members’ Trip to Arsenal

From Siti:

something

A huge THANK YOU to Arsenal Singapore Supporter’s Club for helping me get tickets to the match! There was a reduced ticket allocation, initially, and I had to resign myself to watching the match on my own because my husband was not able to get a ticket. However, we were informed about a spare ticket, just a day before our flight to London! Boy, was I over the moon! It was a cold evening but that did not dampen our excitement for our first match at the Emirates! The atmosphere was electrifying but I was wishing for more goals! Thanks again, Arsenal Singapore Supporter’s Club for making my dream come true!

On 2 April 2015, I visited Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium for their match against Watford. The atmosphere was nothing short of electric on the day and I was so pumped for the game I was at Arsenal Tube Station at 12 noon although the kick off was at 3pm.

The streets near the Emirates and the old Highbury Stadium were lined full of fellow Arsenal supporters dressed in red and white. Stalls and pubs all around were named after Arsenal and the atmosphere was buzzing on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I managed to go into the stadium for a stadium and musuem tour to further enhance my matchday experience with my friend who joined me for the trip. The walk down the Ken Friar Bridge was just a surreal experience showing club legends who had played for the club (except Fabregas). Ken Friar himself was an Arsenal fan and worker who had served the club he loved for decades. He showed me what it meant to be a fan of this fantastic team. In the stadium, I was able to see for myself what the place was like behind the scenes. The home dressing room was unbelievable, with a hot and cold pool as well as a physiotherapy room among other top class facilities. The museum showed so much more of the club’s history from a time long before I was born. This convinced me further of my cause and why I stay up to 3 am to watch games.

When I settled on my seat for the match, the atmosphere was already very lively. Fans were singing songs which were so familiar. Chants of ‘We’re by far the greatest team’ and ‘Arsenal’ were filling the air even before the teams were announced. When the team stepped on the pitch, I could see the players right in front of me. People I have only usually seen from my TV screen now look so much more alive. I was thoroughly overwhelmed by that sight.

Watford were very noisy, chanting about them going to Wembley and how they knocked us out. Many fans then responded to their chants with ‘Stand up, if you won the cup!’. They simply needed to be put in place and not talk about the Cup in the home of the most successful FA cup team in the Premier League!

The match went on so smoothly, with Alexis scoring on the 3rd minute and we never looked back. Bellerin, Walcott and Alex Iwobi all scored in a comprehensive 4-0 win. So much for cup victory Watford, seriously! The team did well all over the park with Ospina making a good save and Ozil pulling the strings. Welbeck was really hardworking as well just to name a few. The passion from Arsenal fans in England can match our supporter’s club’s passion in Molley Roffey’s and I really felt at home there.

After the match, I snapped a few photos of the Arsenal statues, stadium and bought myself a few souvenirs from the Megastore. Arsenal is so big in England that even after the match had ended for 1 hour, people had to queue to enter the tube station. Biggest team in London? For sure.

COYG and I hope I can go back there one day in the near future.
