Our member Tan Chin Hui shares her family’s visit to The Arsenal to watch the team take on Southampton and Chelsea
Arsenal vs Southampton – 21 Apr 2023 (3-3)
Arsenal vs Chelsea – 2 May 2023 (3-1)
As the Chinese say, 人算不如天算 – what are the odds that both matches we’ve applied for were rescheduled? Of which, a bombshell dropped on us just 8 days before our departure to London. (https://www.arsenal.com/news/chelsea-premier-league-clash-moved)
A mad rush and £££ spent to extend our trip later, boy was that all worth it.
2 matches embellished with 10 goals in total, but which otherwise couldn’t be more contrasting. The first: we held our breaths in anxiety as every touch Southampton made seemed a threat. The second: we held our breaths in exhilaration as every touch we made felt like an opportunity.
They could have been better results overall, but the best result we witnessed over the 2 nights is the progress of this young team. From complete outsiders at the start of the season, to a team screaming with potential.
And on top of that, a Library transformed into an intimidating home crowd that rocked the stadium.
The new stadium artworks were made in honour and celebration of our rich history and our values. They portray the spirit of always progressing and moving forward, even when times are tough. The timing of the change is immaculate – it symbolises the renaissance of the club we all love.
As we near the end of the season, some may say we are gifting the title away. I choose to believe that this is the start of something special.
P.S. To our father-daughter bonding trips to watch the Arsenal, and to many more to come.
