A Brief Guide to Singapore

Dear Gooners,

The month of July is almost here, and that means Arsenal will be arriving in Singapore for the ICC tournament very soon! For those of you who will be coming over to Singapore to watch The Arsenal, we have prepared a short but useful guide with information related to getting around our sunny (read: hot and humid) island, and some places you can explore when you are not stalk…erm…following the Arsenal team.

Although Singapore is just a tiny red dot, there are always interesting and exciting events taking place around the island showcasing our unique multi-racial and cultural heritage. Hence, do take some time out to learn more about us while having fun at the same time. You can check out some of the ongoing events if you are looking for things to do in between match days. And lastly, but no less important than watching Arsenal, do sample some of Singapore’s gastronomical delights so you have energy to cheer on the team!

The links below will provide a comprehensive guide on the aforementioned topics; accompanied by a short write-up on some of the more important (Arsenal-related) places:

1. Sports Hub – the place where all the action will take place. Spanking new stadium opened in June 2014, with state of the art facilities that make it a fully integrated sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub. Located right next to the Stadium MRT station (CC6), there is a shopping mall beside the stadium that offers a fine variety of food and shopping, perfect for having a meal before proceeding to watch the matches. More information on getting there can be found in these links:

2. Five Square (Great Eastern Center) – the home of the Official Arsenal Singapore Supporters Club, where passionate Gooners congregate on every weekend match night to cheer on the Gunners! Do drop by for a visit if time permits, and look at how we have done up the place SG Gooners call “Home”. The pub is located within walking distance from 3 MRT stations (Raffles Place, Telok Ayer and Clarke Quay).

3. Places of attraction – Singapore may be tiny, but there is no shortage of places of interests for visitors who wish to explore the island. The links below provide information on some of the most popular attractions that are worth spending time at:

4. Food! Glorious Food! – A visit to Singapore is never complete nor satisfying if you do not try out most, if not all, of our famous local food. As Singapore is a multi-racial and multicultural country, our food is reflective of that, with a smorgasbord of cuisine that caters to different tastes and preferences. Below are some of the places where you can feast to your heart’s content, be it local fare or more refined dining:

We hope that the information provided will enhance your experience while you are in Singapore for the ICC tournament. Do feel free to drop us an email at: enquiry@arsenalsingapore.com if you require further assistance, and we will be more than happy to help.

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter, 10 May 2018

Hello Fellow Singapore Gooners,

Now that we have secured another season in Europe and the magical 6th spot in EPL, our Prez has decided his job is done and is taking a quick vacay. Can you believe it? LOL
I have been “tasked” to say a few words.. Hah! #WengerIn

Well the moment came and went by last Sunday. The man who’s Mr Arsenal through-and-through for decades, won almost every trophy available, who knows every player that has come through the ranks and who has a favourite place in the hearts of all players bade an emotional goodbye to the Arsenal faithful at the Emirates. Yes, Mr Vic Akers, has spent over 30 years dedicated to The Arsenal! Who doesn’t recognize Mr Shorts, especially in the fiercely cold climates in Milan and Ludogrets away games? He will sorely be missed by Gooners worldwide. #AkersOut

Our friendly BFG will also retire end of this season and the applause he received coming in during the last 15 mins on Sunday was a heartfelt thanks to him. Who can forget Per Mertersacker’s colossal performance in the 2017 FA Cup Final when Martin Keown labelled it the “Per Mertersacker Final”? #DankeKapitan #DankePer #PerOut

I’m sure all of you witnessed the grand send-off for Monsieur Arsene Wenger. Trust me folks, there may never be another manager like Wenger ever again. His intelligence, wit, charm and humility has impressed players, manager, fans and even journalists! For those of you who are yet to be convinced, you may only realise what he has done for Arsenal FC in years to come. Merci Wenger! #FatherFigure

On to this weekend, this is the final EPL match this season. It’s time the fat lady has sung (apologies to all fat ladies, truly) and I can’t wait to press CTRL+ALT+DEL and start all over again in August 2018 with our brand new manager. Who will take over the coveted hot seat: Ancelotti, Allegri, Allardyce, Arteta, Sundram? The board should decide before the start of the World Cup, 14th June.

Five Square will open at 8pm this Sunday. Tapas stall and bar bites available so come on down. Probably your last opportunity to renew your memberships and sign-ups before ICC event in July. Exco team will be there at 8.30pm until 9.30pm. The renewal gift is the beauty of a curvy Arsenal SG mug. You know you want to get your hands on it!!

Huddersfield v The Arsenal kick-off is at 10pm. It will be a fun night for all Gooners!

I’ll see you there on Sunday. It might get emotional! I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Arsenal Singapore Newsletter, 1 May 2018

Hello Fellow Singapore Gooners,

The results didn’t go our way for the past 2 games unfortunately, but all to play for still in the Europa League and the performances of our young players at Old Trafford bode well for us if they continue to develop. Maitland-Niles was selected as Man Of The Match in spite of being on the losing team. Mavropanos also looked very impressive.

On Friday morning, 4th May at 305am, we play Atletico away in the second leg of the Europa League Semi-Final and this is it, do or die, 2 wins from a trophy and get back into the Champions League next season. Five Square WILL BE OPEN for this match, same terms as last week, $15 cover charge which includes 1 drink, and this is from midnight onwards. Come on Singapore Gooners, support them and The Gunners and show up!!

And on Sunday, 6 May at 1130pm, is the final home game for Arsene Wenger for us, as we play Burnley. Beat them and we will in all probability finish no lower than 6th. There will be a special send off for Arsene too: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10155967108032713&id=20669912712, so join us to watch this very emotional match. Doors open at 10pm*** and signups and renewals are from 10pm to 11pm (second last session till August).

OK so who’s backing Iceland to win the World Cup?? (just to watch their fans do the awesome Viking war chant lol). Well you can watch it in Singapore from Toggle:

“Catch every goal from the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia! No installation, instant activation and best of all, no contract. Subscribe at an early bird price of $94.16 from now till 22 May.”
