Our exco member Dhanesh shares his visit to The Arsenal to watch the team take on Wolves in the end of the season clash!

North London Forever – the song was stuck in my head ever since I first heard it. And with my journey to Emirates Stadium this time, somehow it just seemed right. Everything seemed right in North London!

Oh what a joyous sunny Sunday afternoon it was on 28th May. Every Gooner I met on the streets of Islington had a smile. I saw mostly happy faces adorning the newly-launched home jersey. No pressure for The Arsenal today knowing we’ll definitely finish 2nd in the league and with Champions League also secured, what’s there to worry? Actually I was worried for a teeny bit only because I didn’t want Wolves to spoil our end-of-season “party” for everyone in London and Singapore.

True enough, The Arsenal weren’t dancing with Wolves at all! More like kitty cats looking at the wimpy display by the opposition. No matter, everyone in the stadium (and I do mean EVERYONE) was singing their hearts out and singing non-stop. I have truly never felt such an atmosphere in all my years of watching The Arsenal.

5-0 To The Arsenal, game over! Perfect all-round display by our team, everyone deserved a 10-star rating. I dare you to say otherwise haha!

But 2 things truly stuck out on that Sunday.

First was Xhaka’s sub out – most if not everyone stood up and applauded him for his performance this season. Was it truly his final match? You could hear the fans belting out “We Want You To Stay” song. How’s that for a turnaround by the enigmatic Granit Xhaka?

Second was Arteta’s thank you speech – after the thank you lap by the players was over, Mikel was asked to say a few words to the supporters and he couldn’t! Simply because the fans were singing his song! Not once, not twice, not thrice but after a few more attempts, Mikel finally got his chance and you could see how emotional everyone was in the stadium. Trust the process, eh?

I’m grateful to the Arsenal Singapore Club for the match ticket. Even more memorable was watching it with 3 other fellow Singapore Gooners. I always feel blessed to watch The Arsenal. This Is Our Arsenal!
