Our member Ng Wuay Boon shares his visit to The Arsenal to watch the team take on Manchester United in September 2023
Our much anticipated afternoon began with lunch at El Rincon Holloway London near Holloway Road station, meeting Arsenal fans of all ages making their way to the Emirates Stadium. Arriving early, we did the customary fan thing to purchase some merchandise from The Armoury.
We then drop by the North Bank to take a photo with the new statue of our former manager Arsène Wenger lifting the Premier League Trophy. It was unveiled on 28 July 2023 to commemorate Arsène’s truly remarkable contribution to our football club, just in time for our visit!
Our seats were at the Clock End and we watched Man U players warm up on our side of the pitch. The stadium was packed like sardines as a sellout crowd waited in anticipation for the start of the competitive match between two fiercest rivals – Arsenal vs Man U.
Honestly, with our so-so performance, we were prepared to accept the 1-1 score line after the rollercoaster ride but yeah, it was euphoria in the stands when Rice created that magical moment and the whole stadium played and sang the tune of “Rice Rice Baby” (to the tune of “Ice Ice Baby”). And Jesus’ goal was the cherry on the cake.
The fans continued to chant our team cheers hysterically as we emptied the stadium and onto the streets. Everywhere we travelled (still wearing our jerseys), strangers on the streets congratulated us on the win
yeah, so it was quite the experience.
We are delighted that Arsenal SG Supporters Club has given us this incredible opportunity to watch our first live match at the Emirates Stadium. “And it’s Arsenal, Arsenal FC! We’re by far the greatest team” Go Gunners!
