Our member Aaron Ong shares his visit to The Arsenal to watch the team take on Manchester United in December 2024.
Delighted to visit the Emirates and be greeted by the sight of Arsenal Singapore prominently displayed both inside and outside of our stadium.
This was for our crucial 2-0 win over Man Utd. Corners from Rice and Saka were world class all night, just begging to be converted by their teammates in the box. From Rice we had Timber’s goal, the early miss from Partey, Zirkzee nearly scoring an OG. From Saka we had Saliba’s goal and Merino heading inches wide. Those not mentioned were still on the money and caused major havoc in the Man Utd penalty box.
Raya had little to do the whole game but what a save he produced when it mattered! De Ligt’s header wasn’t in the corner but it still required a superb fingertip save from Raya to preserve our 1 goal lead at that time.
I’ve watched games when the team was under Arsene and Unai, but this was my 1st live game with Mikel in charge – how he has transformed the crowd and its role in the game. Atmosphere was electric, every corner was cheered almost like a penalty had been awarded, Odegaard received a standing ovation when replaced, even Antony got ironic cheers when he came on! Love the wrestling themes playing the teams on, fittingly at the final whistle Saliba’s song was played for the crowd to echo his name. There is genuine optimism in the air, none of the tension that used to permeate the ground whenever the team faced any adversity.
On a personal level, proud to report that my record remains intact: 9 Arsenal games watched live in London with ZERO goals conceded. Will Arsenal SG consider sponsoring me to watch all home games for next season?
