Greeting Singapore Gooners!!!
This is my 20th newsletter since taking over the presidency and counting.
So far, Arsenal is unbeaten in 2025. A win against Brentford and a draw with Brighton places Arsenal in second position in the PL behind the current league leader, Liverpool, with 6-point advantage and a game in hand. There are 18 more games to go and many things can happen until May.
Fun facts: Arsenal last won the league during the 2003-2004 season (21 years), the FA Cup in 2020 (5 years), the EFL Cup in 1993 (32 years), the Euro Competition in 1994 (31 years) and the last honour that was won in recent time, the Community Shield in 2023 (2 years). I am not sure if the shield should be considered but it is an honour nonetheless, even though it is not a ‘Cup’. To recap: 2, 5, 21, 31, 32, X. For your consideration on Thursday’s TOTO draw. Just saying and not advocating!
The Gunners are still running for 4 competitions this season. The cup that Arsenal can closely sniff at the moment, is the EFL Cup, as the team advanced to the semi-final against Newcastle, to be played in 2-leg. Arsenal will host the first leg on Wednesday, 8 January 2025 at 4 am. No live screening. The last time that the Toon Army defeated Arsenal at the Emirates was in 2010. But Arsenal has a good winning record against them at the Emirates. This season, Newcastle has strengthened their team. They have won 5 games in a row. We lost to them 1-0 at St James Park this season. Arsenal needs to score more goals to take advantage before the second leg. It will be a tough game for sure.
Thereafter, Arsenal welcomes the Red Devils in the FA Cup (3rd round) at the Emirates on Sunday, 12 January 2025 at 11 pm. The game will be shown at Molly Malone’s. Nothing to say about this game. We just have to beat this weak Man U team. Let’s gather and watch the game together. It is going to be an exciting one.
