Happy midweek Gooners!
There was a setback for the Arsenal last week.
Derby Delights
Firstly, it was a hard-fought victory at the Emirates last midweek. The London Derby against Brentford proved to be a classic “tough-tough win,” but the three crucial points stayed firmly in London. The tone was set early by the Gunners, with a brilliant header from Mikel Merino putting us ahead just 11 minutes into the game. However, what followed was a testament to Brentford’s resilience and a period of real frustration. For large stretches of the match, we struggled to find the necessary bite in attack.
Despite this, the defense was absolutely immense, providing the unwavering backbone required for victory. Our backline stood strong, holding the fort and limiting the visitors to just five shots throughout the entire 90 minutes. As the clock ticked deep into injury time, the sense of tension was palpable. The single-goal lead is always a nervous one, but thankfully, the moment of relief finally arrived via a strike from Bukayo Saka, sealing the win.
The final result, a 2-0 win, showcased the squad’s ability to grind out results even when not at their attacking best.
Setback against Unai Enemy
The weekend brought a disappointing end to an incredible run. After an 18-match unbeaten streak, a fantastic achievement!, Arsenal suffered its second loss of the 2025/2026 season away to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. Leandro Trossard had equalised for the Gunners in the 52-minute only for the Villains to secure a late comeback at the dying minutes to make it 2-1.
A draw would have been a fair outcome to both teams, but Aston Villa continues to haunt us season after season. Despite the loss, Arsenal remains at the top of the league with a two-point advantage above Manchester City. The margins are incredibly close, meaning focus and immediate responses are paramount.
Two late kick-off matches for the Gooners this week!
Club Brugge v Arsenal – No live screening
Date: Thursday, 11th December 2025, Kick-off: 4.00 AM
No live screening
The trip to Belgium for the UEFA Champions League fixture against Club Brugge presents an interesting test. This match should be an opportunity for players to re-establish attacking fluidity and confidence after the Villa loss. Early possession and control of the midfield will be crucial to quiet the home crowd and secure a vital win to progress in the group. But will Mikel rest his stars for the weekend game and have the others play since the team has qualified for the next round? We shall see.
Arsenal v Wolves – No live screening
Date: Sunday, 14th December 2025, Kick-off: 4.00 AM
No live screening
Next is a home match at the Emirates against Wolves. It is a chance for an immediate domestic response. The squad needs to display the defensive solidity witnessed against Brentford while adding the clinical edge that was missing against Villa. Winning the midfield battle and utilizing the pace of the wide players to break down the Wolves’ defense will be the key to securing the three points and maintaining that critical gap at the top.
Let’s go for the win, and maintain top of the league!
