Happy Monday Gooners!
North London Drama: Arsenal Edge Palace in Shootout Thriller
Arsenal secured their spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals after a nerve-shredding night at the Emirates. In a match that had everything from late goals to individual heroics, the Gunners finally overcame a resilient Crystal Palace 8-7 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Arsenal controlled the opening 45 minutes, with Gabriel Martinelli proving to be a constant menace. However, Palace keeper Walter Benítez was in inspired form, producing a string of spectacular saves to deny Noni Madueke and Gabriel Jesus. After 80 minutes of frustration, the deadlock was finally broken. A Bukayo Saka corner caused chaos in the Palace box, and the ball eventually deflected off Maxence Lacroix for an own goal. Just as the Gunners looked set for the semi-finals, Palace struck back. In the 95th minute, Marc Guéhi clinically finished from close range after Jefferson Lerma headed down an Adam Wharton free-kick.
The shootout was a masterclass in clinical finishing, with the first 15 penalties all finding the net. It fell to Kepa Arrizabalaga to be the hero. He guessed correctly to save Lacroix’s sudden-death effort, sparking wild celebrations at the Emirates.
Arsenal’s reward is a heavyweight two-legged semi-final against Chelsea. The first leg is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 January 2026, as the team continues their pursuit of silverware on four fronts.
The Captain is BACK! Ødegaard Sparks Emirates Scenes in Massive Win
In an intense Premier League encounter last weekend, Arsenal reclaimed their spot at the top of the table with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium.
Martin Ødegaard opened the scoring in the 14th minute, drilling a low, powerful strike from the edge of the box into the bottom corner. It was his first goal of an injury-disrupted season, providing a much-needed spark for the Gunners. Arsenal doubled their lead in the 52nd minute through a bit of fortune. A wicked corner from Declan Rice was inadvertently flicked into his own net by Brighton’s Georginio Rutter. Despite being dominated for much of the match, the Seagulls fought back. In the 64th minute, Diego Gomez reacted quickest to a rebound after Yasin Ayari’s shot rattled the post, smashing it home to set up a nervous finale.
With Brighton pushing for an equalizer, David Raya produced a world-class, fingertip save in the 77th minute to deny Yankuba Minteh’s curling effort which was destined for the top corner.
The win moves Arsenal back to the summit of the Premier League, leapfrogging Manchester City.
Arsenal vs Aston Villa – No live screening
Date: Wednesday, 31st December 2025, Kick-off: 4.15 AM
No live screening
This is more than just a match. It’s a battle for the Premiership. Former Gunners boss, Unai Emery, returns to the Emirates with a Villa side that is arguably the most in-form team in Europe right now. Villa is on an incredible 11-match winning streak across all competitions and sit just 3 points behind Arsenal. If they win, they pull level with Arsenal. A win for the Gunners would deal a massive blow to a direct title rival and end 2025 on a high.
Bournemouth v Arsenal – No live screening
Date: Sunday, 4th January 2026, Kick-off: 1.30 AM
No live screening
The first game of 2026 is an away match against Bournemouth. While on paper this looks easier than the Villa clash, the Vitality Stadium is always a tricky place to go, especially during the grueling festive period.
The Cherries have been giant-killers, and they’ll be physical and looking to exploit any “New Year’s hangover.”
