Hello Singapore Gooners!

The European Super League eh!! Hmmm, eventually, Arsenal pulled out from the Magnificent 12 within 48 hours of the announcement. I would want to see more drama to unfold from this episode and see whether changes can be made within FIFA. Well….

In similar fashion, Arsenal won a game and drew another last week. A Jekyll and Hyde performance. The win achieved in the second leg quarter final of the Europa League against Slavia Prague was very important. Prior to the game, Arteta had asked his players to battle hard for that match and they battled well indeed, with a thrillingly decisive performance. 4 goals against a team who has never lost at home. It was a magical game, a resurrection perhaps. And we now face Unai’s Villarreal in the semis. Unai brought Arsenal to the final in 2019 and this time, he must be highly motivated to bring the yellow submarines to Poland. And so, Arsenal will be facing a very, very strong opponent in the semis.

With Fulham in the EPL, Arsenal didn’t gel with the 5 changes made to the team that beat Slavia. Passes were sloppy, the players didn’t click, the referee was a dick, VAR was critical, blah blah blah! In the end, Arsenal managed to score in injury time through Nketiah, to prevent Fulham from embarrassing us at home.

Arsenal hosts Everton next on a rare Saturday morning, 24 April 2021 at 3 am for the EPL. The semi-final is 2 weeks away and hopefully Lacazette and Auba have ample time to recover. Following the semi-final, is our end-of-season Zoom gathering.

As mentioned, the Zoom gathering is on 1 May 2021, from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm. An Arsenal legend will be joining us for the gathering. Anyone guessed it, with the clues shared and the information provided in social media? Who’s the legend? #whoisthat

He’s French he’s quick, his name a porno flick, Emmanuel, Emmanuel. He’s none other than Emmanuel Petit, our number 17. It’s not easy to get a legend nowadays, given that zoom gathering is a norm and pricing for players’ appearance have rocketed sky high. But we managed to secure his attendance successfully for our beloved members. We will have a short quiz before the Q&A, with 10 autographed Petit photographs to be won.

Please also send me questions to pose Manu via Shai@arsenalsingapore.com before 23 April 2021, 11.59 pm if anyone is interested. Do include your name, membership number and contact number when submitting your questions.

There are 3 signed Arsenal-team jerseys for auction during the event, to raise funds for the Children’s Aid Society. In addition, we have a huge surprise for everyone and will only disclose the information on the actual day. Quickly register for the event!!

To join the gathering, please register by emailing to melody@arsenalsingapore.com and connie@arsenalsingapore.com. Please provide your name and membership number in the email.

Follow our social media for more insights of the event! Further updates will be provided in the coming weeks! Come on you Gooners!!

Greetings my Singapore Gooners!

Did you watch the last 2 Arsenal matches? Following the Liverpool loss, I was hoping that the team would have bucked up and play the game of their life in the Europa League against Slavia Prague. As the match went on, both teams were competitively pitting against each other.  Arsenal had clear goal chances from Saka, Lacazette, Aubameyang until Pepe sliced home a goal to put Arsenal ahead to take a one-goal advantage to Prage.

But it is not to be when Arsenal self-destructed as usual, in injury time, to allow an equaliser from the opponent. Those wasted chances might prove costly for Arsenal. The contentious issue is whether Arteta could have made early substitutes instead of at the last 10 minutes? Was he saving the players for Sheffield’s game?

To be honest, Arsenal is unlikely to get the top 6 position in the EPL. The Europa League is the most important, most appealing, most desired, most essential for Arsenal, to compete for a place in the Champions League in the 2021/2022 season and a silverware. Being in Europe would also provide a chance to rebuild the team with new players to fight for honours.

In the EPL, Arsenal beat Sheffield convincingly to a score of 3-0. It was a confident performance by the Gunners. I was impressed with the midfield domination. Not sure if I’ve highlighted this, but Thomas plays better without Xhaka alongside him. With the latter in left back, Thomas was bossing the midfield and played better than the last game. Overall, a good week for Arsenal, a draw and a win.

Two more games this week. The vital one of course, is the second leg of the Europa League quarter final against Slavia Prague on Friday, 16 April 2021 at 3 am. The biggest opponent is not Slavia but Arsenal themselves, as quoted by our member, Kevin Tan, who hoped that the right team would turn up on that day to win the game.

After that, Arsenal hosts Fulham Sheffield on Sunday, 18 April 2021 at 8.30 am for the EPL.

As announced, the end-of-season Zoom gathering is on 1 May 2021, from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm. For this event, an Arsenal legend will be joining us in Zoom. Who’s the legend?  Another clue, he is French, a midfielder and won the league with Arsenal!! #whoisthat

We have now three signed Arsenal jerseys for auction as well. To join the event, please register with melody@arsenalsingapore.com and connie@arsenalsingapore.com. Follow our social media for more insights of the event! Further updates will be provided in the coming weeks!

Hello my Singapore Gooners!

So Easter was not good this year for Arsenal. We won in 2018 and 2019. But not in 2021. I guess the international break got the better of them. Losing 3-0 at home to Liverpool is one thing but the manner the team had lost the match is another.

It was an abysmal and a lousy performance from Arsenal. And while Liverpool is going through a similar patch like us, we made them look like a truly good side. Arsenal was badly outplayed throughout the game. There was no doubt that key players were missing but the line-up was not bad at all. It was their performances that were very poor and in disarray.

Once again, the team has to start all over again for Arteta to rebuilt. Hopefully, the manager can rally the players, as the next two games will be tough. Especially the Europa League quarter final against Slavia Prague at the Emirates on Friday, 9 April 2021 at 3 am, in which we must play very, very well to have the advantage over them for the first leg. The Europa League is Super-Vital for Arsenal this season. Following that, Arsenal travels to Bramal Lane to play Sheffield United on Monday, 12 April 2021 at 2 am for the EPL. Two early morning games in the span of 3 days. Come on Arsenal!!

As previously shared, Arsenal SG will be holding an end-of-season Zoom gathering on 1 May 2021, from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm. It’ll be something like our 10th year anniversary party when Lauren joined us. Similarly, for this event, we have secured an Arsenal legend to join us but the difference is that he won’t be physically with us. It’ll be via Zoom. But still, the fun remains. Here’s another clue, he is French and a midfielder for Arsenal!! #whoisthat

We have two signed Arsenal jerseys for auction as well.  I would like to rally all our members to gather and join the event. Follow our social media for more insights of the event! Further updates will be provided in the coming weeks!
