Arsenal Singapore Newsletter 24th February 2016

Hello Singapore Gooners,

For 70 minutes this morning, more than 70 Gooners present at Molly Bras Basah and millions worldwide knew we had some momentum to perhaps, just perhaps, cause an upset against FCB. But football is played over 90 mins, not 70. Double dose of that “Messi-ah” has made our 2nd leg an uphill task. I’m sure the team is gutted after a much improved performance.

Forget MSN, we had WOG (try figuring that out!) but we’re not there yet. Welbeck and Walcott showed some promise but we just fired blanks. The name of the game is to SCORE, not just defend. So if we snooze, we lose. There is still all to play for in the 2nd leg. Even a 5% chance is STILL a chance.

Plus with the weekend 0-0 stalemate against the “Flamingo Land”-sponsored Tigers of Hull FC, we’ve got some pretty taxing games coming up. That’s 7 Arsenal matches in 21 days coming up. So get your Red Bull/Milo Dinosaur/Vitagen ready!

And so finally, it’s down to another showdown this Sunday. No, I’m not referring to Madonna’s concert at the National Stadium in Singapore. The other showdown in Manchester when we take on Manure at their turf. It’s been an unpredictable LVG team all season long so you’re not show which one will show up. Can we hit the final nail in LVG’s coffin and seal his fate once and for all?

Will Welbeck and Campbell start and score? Will Coq be our beast in midfield? Will you still sing loud and proud?

Kick-off is Sun 28th Feb, 10pm at Molly Bras Basah.

“We Won The League, In Manchester!” COYG!!!

Dear Singapore Gooners,

Good morning Singapore Gooners, For 94 mins and 28 seconds last Sunday, it looked doom and gloom. We kept huffing and puffing but we could not clinch that 2nd goal to kill off the Foxes.

Then 1 second later, Danny Boy rose to the occasion and slotted home the WINNER!

Cue Mayhem! Pandemonium At Molly. At Emirates. Whole of London (ahem). Worldwide.

I may have hugged 1 guy. Or 2. Or 3. Or 4. Make that 6!!! Completely delirious!

Molly Bras Basah was a full house last Sunday and everybody went mental and bonkers. Probably never heard a louder roar there this season. Every single person present that night would probably never forget that moment. Yes, I think I shed some tears at the final whistle.

Here is Welbeck’s new song (sung to the tune of Wilshere’s “He Smokes When He Wants”).

“He’s my Valentine
He’s my Valentineeeeee,
Danny Welbeck,
He’s my Valentine!”

How many of you have replayed THAT goal on your handphone and tablets? It’s been 3 days and I can watch that goal all day long. There are numerous videos online now of Danny’s. But one of my personal favourite is this Icelandic video commentary which will make you LOL. Check it out here:

So 2 points off the leaders, rather than 8. We’re still joint second with that sh*te team so with 12 games to go, it’s clearly a 3-horse race! The team must be all hyped now so it’s really gonna do down to the wire. We have some tricky games coming up. Let’s get behind the team, Gooners!

Volunteers

Some of you have previously signed up as volunteers for our adopted charity Children’s Aid Society. We only have 1 monthly session with the kids who are always happy to see us spending time with them. If you are not able to devote your time for this scheme, please inform Shai. We require active volunteers.

We would like to grow our pool of volunteers (male and female) so that we can rotate them as not all volunteers are required on a monthly basis. Those who are keen to volunteer, please drop a note to Shai at shai@arsenalsingapore.com and he will fill you in with more details.

Finally, it’s the FA Cup 5th round against Hull this weekend. We are on course to create history by being the 1st team in 130 years to win the FA Cup 3 times in a row. Wenger will shuffle the side once again so we may see Welbeck, Iwobi, Elneny, Gibbs in the starting line-up.

The Arsenal v Hull City on Sat 20th Feb, 8.45pm kick-off at Molly Bras Basah only. (Dorsett is CLOSED!)

What Did She Wear?

Next Wednesday, we will also be showing the minor Champions League clash against Barcelona.  It’s gonna be a cracking game and I reckon Gooners will come down to catch it on the big screen!

Dear Singapore Gooners,

GONG XI FA CAI !
Did you enjoy the long weekend break?
Did you fill your tummies with enough pineapple tarts, bak kwa, love letters and kueh bangkit yet?
Did you enjoy The Arsenal’s victory last Sunday?

Well it was a night of reunions like no other when the boys finally won a match in the league after some time now. Mesut scored against Bournemouth again like he did last December and once again it was 2-0 to the Arsenal! Cech kept us in the game and another clean sheet! That’s 12 clean sheets this season so far and the best goalie the BPL has ever seen (The stats speak for themselves!). The team is still finding its momentum after January’s stutter. Hopefully this win will instill more confidence especially with a Big match looming this Sunday.

Barcelona Match – Wed 24th Feb, 3.45am
Good news, Gooners! Molly Bras Basah will be open for this crucial Champions League clash. It’s gonna be a cracking game and so come over (not in your PJs though) and catch it on the big screen! We usually see a good crowd for such matches so I know you will be excited to hear this news.

Molly Roffey’s Dorsett outlet
Folks, we have been informed that Molly Roffey’s Dorsett outlet will cease operations effective today. The management would like to thank you for your support. Moving forward, all Arsenal matches will be shown at Bras Basah outlet only.

And finally, it’s a Top-of-the-table clash against Leicester this Sunday. There isn’t any other place you should be but infront of a telly to catch this showdown. This may shape the title run-in with 13 games to go, psychologically speaking. No better opportunity to cut the lead to 2 points if we beat the Foxes. I’m gonna say it… Everything is at stake here!

Save all your “What did the Fox say?” jokes/songs and get behind your beloved Arsenal. We need your support. The team needs your support!

Your first love, The Arsenal, 14th Feb, Sunday 8pm kick-off, at Molly Bras Basah (Dorsett is CLOSED!).
